🎄 A Christmas Message from the Leader of Bury Independents 🎄

As we approach the end of 2025, I want to take a moment to wish every resident of Bury a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. This season is a time for reflection, gratitude, and hope. Here in Bury, we have so much to be proud of.

✨ Celebrating Our Volunteers

Our borough is blessed with extraordinary people who give up their free time to help others. People like Pat Lay, a driver for Re-engage, who ensures older residents can enjoy free Sunday tea parties in the homes of volunteers. Pat’s dedication was recognised with a national award this year, and rightly so, she is a shining example of the kindness that makes Bury special.

We also celebrate the incredible Blood Bikes volunteers, riders and drivers who transport vital medical supplies across Greater Manchester. Their commitment, often in challenging conditions, saves lives and supports our NHS. I hope to continue to volunteer with Greater Manchester Blood Bikes throughout 2026. These examples remind us that Bury’s strength lies in its people.

🚍 Looking Ahead to 2026

The new year brings exciting news: from 2026, Bury pensioners will enjoy free 24/7 bus travel. This is a huge step forward in supporting independence, tackling isolation, and ensuring our older residents can stay connected with family, friends, and community life. It’s a change that will make a real difference, and we’re delighted to see it coming.

🗳️ Local Elections in 2026

Next year also brings the local elections, and we in Bury Independents are very much looking forward to them. We’ve had a strong first year, standing up for residents, challenging decisions when needed, and working constructively to make Bury better. In 2026, we’ll continue to build on that foundation: listening, engaging, and ensuring that local voices are heard loud and clear in the council chamber.

🌟 A Final Word of Thanks

As we gather with loved ones this Christmas, let’s remember the volunteers, carers, and community champions who make Bury such a wonderful place to live. On behalf of Bury Independents, thank you for everything you do.

Here’s to a joyful Christmas, a peaceful New Year, and an exciting 2026 ahead.

Warmest wishes,

Steve Middleton
