Bury Independents 2026 local election candidates

Unsworth ward

I grew up in Unsworth & Whitefield and attended Castlebrook High School, Bury College then Manchester University. I have been a community campaigner since 2009 and am one of the co-founders of Bury Independents.

I’m a Project Manager in the civil service and prior to that I was a Border Force Officer for 10 years and IT engineer for over a decade before that. In my spare time I have use of a light aircraft, which allows me to fly around Bury and see our fabulous town from the air. In my spare time I volunteer for two charities, Greater Manchester Blood Bikes and Civil Air Support.

I want to see sensible and thoughtful investment in Unsworth and Whitefield in particular, and also want to protect our valuable green spaces for future generations.

Elton ward

I am your Bury Independent candidate for Elton ward in Bury Council’s local elections due to take place on Thursday 7th May 2026.

I am standing as the Bury Independent candidate for Elton ward in the May elections because I feel that the needs of local people will be better served by a locally based group rather than by the main national political parties. Our aim is to get the best deal for the people of Elton and Bury generally and, above all, to listen to the real views of local people.

Besses ward

I am Martyn West and I am your Bury Independent candidate for Besses ward in Bury Council’s local elections due to take place on Thursday 7th May 2026.

Thank you all for your support last year when I came second to the incumbent representative. I hope you want change, and I am the person best placed to bring that about with Bury Independents.

We are a group of local people who have lost confidence in politicians especially those from national parties. We believe Bury residents deserve better with representatives who will put the residents first, not the policies of national political parties.

The local election on 7th May is your chance to have your say. You decide who represents your interests and how your taxpayer money is spent in Bury.

5000 voters in Besses Ward do not vote. This means that 2000 voters who do, have a say. No Vote = No Say.

Moorside ward

I came to live in Bury in the early 70s moving from the south of London. While growing up I lived in the Elton Ward area, in 2019 moved to Moorside area Chesham.

I’ve worked in retail over 16 yrs took redundancy and since 2022 worked alongside my partner running a locally-based auto electrical business.

I want to help to tackle the rubbish and fly tipping in Moorside ward and help to protect our green spaces.

Redvales ward

I am running for council as I want to try and make a change for the residents of Redvales.

We deserve better than what we have received.
