On 12th November 2025 Bury Independents campaigners Steve Middleton (Unsworth ward) and Martyn West (Besses ward) attended the full Bury Council session to ask the Council leaders questions about road safety outside schools, including the lack of School Crossing Patrol at Sunny BanK road and also questioned that council about their strategy to ignore the needs of Whitefield and Prestwich residents who wanted the Haweswater underpass (“Joey’s tunnel”) to be improved as part of the Simister Island project.
